Project description
This residential project, the practice’s second along one of Queensland’s iconic beaches, demonstrates a disciplined and confident approach to material expression. The house employs a restrained palette of concrete, timber and travertine, establishing a clear architectural identity that is both robust and cohesive.
The dwelling is oriented away from the street, prioritising internal spatial focus and uninterrupted engagement with the ocean. Internally, oak panelling replaces conventional painted plaster, softening the extensive use of off-form concrete across both interior and exterior surfaces. Combined with raw travertine, the materials are selected for durability, responding to the demands of a coastal environment and an active family lifestyle.
The façade is articulated through in-situ concrete, with timber formwork arranged in a varied grid pattern that introduces texture and visual rhythm. The resulting structure is composed and understated, reflecting a high level of construction precision and a consistent attention to detail throughout.
