Project description
This project delivers an integrated design–build outcome that positions landscape as a use-driven spatial system shaped by performance, circulation and long-term durability across the ground plane of an existing residential property. Delivered under a Complying Development Certificate (CDC), the project required close coordination between architectural intent, landscape construction and site performance to achieve a complete and compliant outcome.
Rather than treating landscape as an external or decorative layer, the project focuses on how the ground plane supports everyday movement and use across the site. Spatial decisions respond to the building’s entry and massing while prioritising clarity of circulation, surface performance and functional continuity.
The original condition presented a series of functional shortcomings that limited usability and spatial legibility. An underscaled entry sequence, fragmented circulation and unresolved ground conditions weakened movement across the site and compromised everyday use.
Through an integrated design–build process, the ground plane was recalibrated to support daily activity through improved circulation, surface continuity and spatial clarity. Movement paths were reconfigured to establish a coherent and intuitive spatial framework, allowing the landscape to operate as a continuous and usable system rather than a collection of isolated spaces.
In addition, an existing tennis court was identified as a high-use element with compromised performance. Surface deterioration and unresolved drainage issues had limited playability and long-term use. Through targeted reconstruction and surface recalibration, the court was renewed as a resilient recreational space capable of supporting intensive daily use.
The project demonstrates how landscape can operate as a primary spatial framework, where use, performance and durability define spatial quality over time.
